Block & Stripe - quilt cushion

This 16-square cushion pattern is a delightful way to turn your fabric scraps into something beautiful and practical. Each square features a centre surrounded by strips, creating a versatile design that can be playful, contemporary, or romantic — it all depends on the fabrics you choose.

Perfect for beginners and experienced sewers alike, this pattern lets you experiment with colours, prints, and textures. Whether you use bold geometrics or soft florals, you’ll create a unique piece that can instantly refresh the vibe of any room.

Sewn by machine, this cushion comes together easily, making it a satisfying project for a weekend or an afternoon of crafting. It’s a simple way to add a handmade touch to your home or gift someone a personalised creation.

In the workshop you will learn:

  • How to sort colours to create the best visuals with your quilt squares
  • Making the block and stripe square
  • Cutting the block and stripe square

Ruth has always been a crafter - and one that loves to pass on her love for creating. She trained as a clothing designer in the UK, working with textiles and fashion warehouses. When she came to Australia she graduated from Box Hill TAFE with a Diploma of Visual Arts and then completed a Bachelor of Adult Learning and Development at Monash University.

She has taught art and crafts at a tertiary level and also through community education programs, some in very remote areas. She strongly believes in the need to facilitate opportunities for creative workshops in rural and regional communities. She knows first hand that people in these areas often don't often get the chance to participate in events like these, and being able to explore creativity in a supportive, safe space is an essential part of life.

She has recently produced Finding Form with Fibre a beautiful sculptural basketry book to set creators off on a journey of exploration of plants to create their own work developing their own ideas. https://www.craftschooloz.com/about-the-book
